Hey everyone, things are starting to get really exciting in my life and I haven’t had the time to update this blog as frequently as I would like to. I’ve had the awesome experience of helping a wonderful photographer and friend, Justyna Badach with her photography series ‘bachelor portraits’ (they can be viewed here). (mainly retouching her scans of 4x5 film). I’ve learned so much from Justyna and have grown to step outside my comfort zone and am being inspired to create a new body of work where I interact with people whom I normally wouldn’t approach. Justyna is such an inspiration in my life and I am very thankful to have met her!
I also have had the opportunity to intern with a very knowledgable woman named Maria DiElsi, on the Artway Project ( which can be viewed here ). I worked with Maria over the course of 5 months archiving, scanning, and sorting vintage prints and negatives of Russian Immigrant Alexander Artway, and his journey around the world. I also learned how to properly archive delicate old prints, how to properly hang a show for a gallery, among other meticulous and tedious tasks. It was a great learning experience and I am blessed to have gained the knowledge from Maria.
The learning process never ends… I am in my 3rd year at the Art Institute and I am blossoming more than ever! I am pushing myself more and more and sometimes things can be very stressful. By attending the Art Institute and living in a city that is the polar opposite of where I grew up (in good old Lancaster county), I am definitely being stretched both emotionally, creatively, and artistically ! Which are all great things. I’m seeking inspiration in every nook and cranny that I lay my eyes on.. The golden light that leaks through my satin in the early morning that spills over my eyelids, the steamy grates on sidewalks. Even the way the city hums at night — i feel that it is important to seek inspiration in everything, even though it’s not all daisies and roses all of the time.
That being said— I would love for you all to check out a contest that I entered tonight ( I went on a whim!). check out the work, vote if you feel moved to do so. Thank you all for your support and love over the years.
Stay inspired.
Katie.
